Mumpreneur Diary

I thought I would share with you my diary so far this week. There is a lot going on at the moment in the world of Social Media Mum and Opal Products.

Monday 9th August

I’m always up around 645 getting myself and the children ready for the day ahead. Mondays the children go to Nanny’s for a few hours so that Mummy can do some work. This week I had my Mums in Business networking event so I was on my way to Kettering by 9am ready for a 10am start. It was a good interactive event with Claire Burgess as our guest speaker. I was back on the road by 1230 as I wanted to do a spec visit to a service station I had spotted on the way with my California Scents (I keep loads of samples and business cards in the car so I can call in anywhere when I am passing) I met with the manager of the store who informed me they buy from a national distributor (I will call them when I get back to the office) Back at the office by 1pm its time for a quick cuppa and a bite to eat. I contacted the national distributor and samples were put in the post. I spent the next couple of hours catching up on e-mails and making a few more sales calls. 3pm I head off to pick up my gorgeous girls who I really miss whilst I am working, as we are off to meet our friends at the park for a play and a picnic for tea. It was nice to sit and chill for a couple of hours whilst Harriet and her friends ran round like crazy people and burnt up all their energy. Home at 6pm, dinner sorted for me and James followed by bath and bed for Harriet and Lexie. I try not to work too much in the evenings but I usually just catch up on any outstanding e-mails and check in on Facebook and Twitter! Bedtime for Mummy and Daddy is usually around 11pm!

Tuesday 10th August

Another busy day ahead, up and out of the house for 815 to get Harriet to nursery then it’s back home to work for the morning. I’m lucky that Lexie is a really contented baby and I have lots of her toys in my office to keep her entertained. By 10am she’s ready for her morning nap so that gives me time to make any sales calls that I need to or follow up with any clients. Lexie was up by 1130 and off we went to pack our orders that needed shipping by the end of the day. We had lunch together at 1230 and I get to have a ten minute catch up on Facebook to see what everyone is up to. Lexie is booked in for her first nursery trial this afternoon 2-3pm. She is starting nursery in September two days a week (I don’t want her to go but I am going to use the days to work whilst Harriet is at school, what I can get done in 6 hours with no children is untold!) The trial went really well, next week I have got to leave her for an hour…

Next on my list is to visit the new owner of my old cleaning company. Just a catch up meeting going over a few staff issues and providing my expertise and advice. Lexie enjoyed emptying the paper recycling bin all over the floor! 5pm we picked Harriet up from nursery then off to the gym to meet the kid’s activity co-ordinator and get Harriet booked onto some after-school activities from September. She’s chosen tennis, football and dancing! Finally it’s time to go home for the dinner, bath and bed routine. I flop onto the sofa with my laptop around 8pm and just check over a few e-mails…

Wednesday 11th August

Wednesday’s is nursery for Harriet, gym for Mummy and crèche for Lexie. Had a great workout and was back home by 1045. Lexie off for her nap, quick shower for me and into my office whilst she is sleeping. Sales calls this morning, I had a long list to get through and I made some great progress. Samples sent out and follow-ups diarised. Lunch at home with little Lexie followed by cuddles and playtime then a nice walk to the post office in the sunshine. Back home to my office whilst Lexie had her afternoon nap, she’s so good at letting Mummy get some work done. I received some fantastic news for Opal Products this afternoon which I can’t wait to share with you all very soon. More playtime and cuddles for me and Lexie when she woke up, she’s teething so was feeling a bit grumpy this afternoon so 100% mummy attention was required. Daddy and big sister arrive home at 5pm and we have some family time and catch up on what we have all been up to during the day. I grab a quick cuppa and dash back to my office for half an hour to close down for the day whilst Daddy is in charge. The usual dinner bath and bed routine is all done by 8pm and I’ve promised myself a night on the sofa bliss!

The Rest of the Week

Thursday will be working at home in the morning and we have a friend coming to visit in the afternoon. Mummy and Daddy are off out for dinner tomorrow night whilst Aunty and Uncle babysit, I can’t wait a glass of wine is well deserved I think. Friday is my official day off and after a trip to the gym in the morning it’s a day with the kids and Nanny, the perfect end to a busy week getting ready for the weekend ahead.

I am so proud of what I have achieved over the last few months since I sold my cleaning business. Opal Products has grown in ways that I only dreamt of, the doors have started to open in all directions now that I can give it my time and effort. I get a buzz from everything I do each day and love bringing on new business and clients. I even sold to a fuel station at 945pm the other night after a trip to the cinema to see Toy Story 3, I never miss an opportunity! I also love the fact that I can work really hard but still get to be a Mummy to my two beautiful daughters every day and that is just priceless.

Keep in touch; I would love to hear what you get up to whilst being a Mumpreneur. x
